Feels Like Injustice?

I normally do not publish topics of safety issues on this Blog; however, I wanted to address a problem & begin a discussion with other people who feel my pain.

Last month I was driving down a busy main road in Nashville, TN; unfortunately that morning I was blocked by a metro policeman in the middle of the turn lane in front of a major intersection light. He was on a motor bike & walking or standing in the middle of this busy lane.  I concluded he was directing traffic for an upcoming wreck, construction or some unforeseen problem...however, this was not one of those times.

I don't know if others feel this way, but I would like to know if you have been a victim of a power-happy policeman.  Police are suppose to be here to serve & protect but it seems these days they are here to take advantage of their power given to them by the city & use it only to meet a well-known 'quota'.

Here's my problem with this situation- if he was trying to capture the speeders coming down the road...why would you place yourself in the middle of morning traffic in order to 'capture' the so-called speeders...was he really using radar or taking advantage of his power, no matter the cost.

If you have had a similar problem- tell me about it, then complain to your local police station.  These scenarios can be prevented & you can turn the tables on these power happy figures...

Grammy Students Sing with Keith Urban

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (July 26, 2010) — On July 23 Keith Urban, three-time GRAMMY® Award winner and one of country music's most successful and influential artists, headlined the GRAMMY Foundation®'s signature benefit Starry Night concert at the LA Tennis Center at the University of California, Los Angeles. Rising folk/rock stars the Avett Brothers opened the benefit. This event was presented in association with the Farmers Classic tennis tournament
presented by Mercedes-Benz, and was held three nights prior to the tournament's opening. Starry Night benefitted the GRAMMY Foundation's GRAMMY in the Schools® music education programs for high school students and the Southern California Tennis Association's foundation. As part of Urban's sold-out, two-hour concert, six GRAMMY Camp participants were called up to the stage to perform Urban's No. 1 hit "Days Go By." Katie Gavin of Winnetka, Ill., Savannah Meares of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Brenna Miles of La Canada Flintridge, Calif., sang background vocals, India Pascucci of Burbank, Calif., played drums, and guitarist Kristen Castro of Simi Valley, Calif., and violinist Kevin Schwarzwald of Pacific Palisades, Calif., were both featured with solos during the song. The crowd reacted with thunderous applause.

"Keith Urban's career is defined by both exceptional musicianship and extraordinary generosity," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy® and the GRAMMY Foundation. "And it is meaningful and moving that Keith lent his time and talents during the busy summer touring season in support of the GRAMMY Foundation and our GRAMMY in the Schools music education programs. We offer young people real-world experiences in the music industry and it doesn't get any more 'real' than having our GRAMMY Campers perform before a packed audience with Keith Urban. We were also delighted to have the Avett Brothers showcase their unique and powerful music at our Starry Night benefit."

"Having those kids onstage with us on Friday really serves as a reminder of what is possible when you're lucky enough to find your passion," said Urban. "I was so impressed by their talent and their obvious love for playing." The kids first met Urban onstage prior to the concert during his afternoon soundcheck, when he and his band worked with the campers to put the finishing touches on their performance.

"The Farmers Classic was again delighted to collaborate with the GRAMMY Foundation to help raise funds for this worthy charity," said Bob Kramer, Farmers Classic tournament director. "The Southern California Tennis Association and UCLA are extremely proud to be involved with such important causes and to provide a lively and entertaining kick off for the 84th annual Farmers Classic at UCLA."

Organized under the banner GRAMMY in the Schools, the GRAMMY Foundation's education programs include GRAMMY Camp® — held this year from July 10–19 at USC — as well as the GRAMMY Jazz Ensembles, GRAMMY Career Day, GRAMMY Signature Schools, and GRAMMY SoundChecks®. This year Urban served as GRAMMY Camp's honorary dean to affirm his commitment to the GRAMMY Foundation's music education programs.

NCC Album Reviews by Leslie Armstrong

The Reason Why, Capitol Records (Little Big Town) Hot off the airwaves with “Little White Church” is the staple Country group set to release a full compilation of tunes that evoke various emotions in different musical styles. There is a little bit of everything on this album including a tinge of Blues on the tune "Runaway Train" along with a more Traditional Country mix set in the lyrics of 'You Can't Have Everything." Phillip from the band was right in describing this followup album, releasing on Capitol records, as a new musical direction for the four part harmonic crew. This album is a definite must for your music collection. Release date is currently set for August 24th. Catch more news at www.littlebigtown.com

This Song is For You, Vanguard/Sugar Hill Records (Joey + Rory) The wife/husband duo took their inspirations from society and penned a tune of appreciation. The song includes guest vocals from the Zac Brown Band in a slow-down traditional Country melody with lyrics talking about the men and women working hard to keep this Country educated, protected, and running smoothly. The anthem-like message is simple yet to the point and has a nice rounded hook throughout the songs' entirety. You can download it for free now by visiting: www.joeyandrory.com/download

Top Down, Universal Republic (Fast Ryde)
Both James and Jody have fun with the music they make but it isn't the ordinary Country music you may hear as exampled in the synthesized track of "Top Down." The guys add a flair of current times trendy production with the infusion of traditional Country instruments such as the steel guitar and fiddle, combined with a very catchy hook. This summer mantra won't force its melody in to your head but it will breeze into your memory and encourage the want to sing along. You can find out more by visiting www.fastryde.com
